The Wake

This film is about a film student who has a dream, some of the films he’s been studying play a key role in his dream. I believe Irish mythology, culture and history has some great ideas for films that haven’t really been on screen. I don’t recall ever seeing a wake in a film before. So, I thought a wake would be a good theme for a surreal short horror of sorts. The masks were inspired by Eyes Wide Shut, I done my essay on Stanley Kubrick at Christmas, so a lot of his films were fresh in my mind at the time of writing the script, as was David Lynch, I had recently watched Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive. Lynch’s use of dreams and ghastly characters were an inspiration. The film is for everyone, but I suppose it could be a bit scary at times for children. There is no swearing, nudity, violence or anything like that in it. My brother composed the piano piece for it, which I’m delighted with, an original soundtrack. I really enjoyed it and I’m already planning my next film.
