The Fairies

The rise of the little fairy doors that have been scattered around woodlands in the last number of years, particularly throughout lockdown, inspired an idea to make a visual depiction of one of my favourite poems – ‘The Fairies’ by Donegal native William Allingham. When I was little, I was terrified of the poem - as most children are - and I wanted the film to capture the innocence and purity of children, as well as hinting at the dark undertone of the story. I was lucky enough to be able to make my vision come to life within Covid restrictions and source a very talented little actress Abbie Sterritt. The project was a collaboration of local artists, with local musician Shauna Mc Daid lending her dulcet tones to the narration, and Shammen Delly electronic music composer providing the soundtrack.
