Validus

Validus, the collection, is inspired by my Latvian heritage and how it clashes and fuses with my Irish upbringing. The interpretation of architecture allowed me to investigate the difference in the spirit and soul of the design process in both countries. In Latvia, there is an appreciation and celebration of historical features and traditional materials, whereas in Ireland, there is an admiration for contemporary, futuristic architecture. The Irish architectural futuristic shapes have inspired the garments’ silhouette, but the appreciation of the heritage materials is evident in my use of Irish linen and the subtle colour palette. The Validus Collection works with sharp tailored shapes and clean lines enhanced with manipulated and pleated linen to give it a geometric texture. The use of vinyl prints and 3D printed features created a point of distinction without compromising on the classic shapes of the garments. Creating a range using quality Irish linen with classic timeless cuts works towards the sustainable ideas of slow fashion. Linen comes from a zero-waste crop and the flax plant can grow in poor quality conditions requiring low water usage and reduced fertilizers.
