A daughter, a sister, a lover, a wife, a mother. You must be all, and you must do it well. Be loving, be beautiful, be gentle, be a lady, be sexy, be quiet, be strong, stay in line. You must give everything, yet never too much. To be feminine, but only in the ways deemed acceptable. To be yourself, but never too loudly. “The War of Womanhood” is inspired by three generations of Latvian women who have come before me and shaped me into the woman that I am today. Their fight and resilience trying to establish a place for themselves in life throughout periods of World War, political unrest and Russian occupation. It explores the different roles and different stages of a woman’s life, through parallels drawn between softness as strength, beauty as armour, and femininity as a battlefield. Serving as a reflection of their stories of finding happiness and strength in the harshness. Working with repurposed McNutt of Donegal Tweed and deadstock denim, mixed with Donegal Yarns hand knit elements. Designed for women of any age who value sustainability and appreciate vintage style.
