Bodies of Water

Blond Orbits collection ‘Bodies of Water’ was inspired by the mood evoked “Little Mermaid” story written by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The collection has a dreamy and feminine feel echoing the fantasy from the fairy-tale. The transformation of the mermaid into an air goddess, explores themes of innocence, hope and destiny, all of which is at the core of this collection. It reminds us that rejection is redirection, and we have the power to obtain anything we desire. Living by the sea has always put my life into perspective and gave me an inner peace. The power and scale of it allows us to consider how small we are in this universe and how connected we all truly are. This collection blends tradition with modernity through creating long lasting, non-seasonal, timeless pieces for a chic and fashion-bold person who appreciates eclectic garments. The ‘Bodies of Water’ collection wants to facilitate the lifestyle of someone who appreciates a day to night-time wardrobe. Each piece is created with love, from design to production. Blond Orbit aims to deliver eccentric and unique garments that will be appreciated for a lifetime. The range celebrates the confident women who inspire me, with a commitment to diversity and inclusivity. The final collection's blend of sturdy denim, soft crochet, and delicate translucent metallic fabrics reinforces the ethereal mermaid theme. This collection's designs are created with deadstock fabric and ethical production. I sourced fabric from a small local business as well as deadstock fabric from Victoria Beckham's previous collection. I gathered pre-used materials donated by others that were upcycled for my collection. The wools and yarn for the crochet were given to me from a local designer who no longer required them. The handmade crochet is a brilliant example of slow fashion. I began by experimenting with old shirts that were about to be dumped and tried to ensure that most of my experimenting and samples could be used as an accessory and be reworked later for the collection.
